# The imperial courts reunite (1392)

Under Ashikaga Yoshimitsu’s influence, the Southern Court surrendered its regalia and the rival courts were reunited. The settlement ended the formal division without resolving every question of succession or legitimacy. Later historical judgments about the two lines remained politically important.
