Wet-rice farming spread from the Asian continent into northern Kyūshū during the early first millennium BCE. New dating has pushed the beginning earlier than the traditional date of about 300 BCE. Agriculture, migration and metalworking gradually reshaped communities rather than producing an immediate nationwide transition.
